University of Cincinnati now offering lower tuition rate for all Kentucky students
The University of Cincinnati is now offering a lower tuition rate to all Kentucky residents, the university announced.
The university previously offered its metro tuition rate to students from certain counties in Indiana and Kentucky. Now, it will be provided to all Kentucky residents who enroll at UC. The metro tuition rate is $6,888 per semester for full-time students, or $13,776 per year, according to the university’s website. It’s slightly higher than the in-state tuition for Ohio residents, which is $6,588 per semester for full-time students, or $13,176 per year.
The change to metro tuition rates would save Kentucky students taking 15 credit hours each semester over $7,000 per semester, or nearly $59,000 over four years, said Katie Pence, UC spokesperson. Out-of-state tuition is $14,255 per semester for full-time students, or $28,510 per year.
Jack Miner, vice provost for enrollment management at UC, said in the past two years freshman enrollment from Kentucky has increased by 30%. Miner said he hopes that the new, lower tuition for Kentucky students will continue to increase that number.
”UC has made a commitment to increase access to higher education for this region,” he said. “As we look for opportunities to ensure that students and families have a pathway to college, that investment has to include those students throughout the Tristate.”
More than 2,800 students from Kentucky are enrolled at UC this year, Miner said. Overall, UC has an enrollment of nearly 51,000 students.
“Having a Research 1 university within driving distance is an incredible opportunity for high school students looking at college,” Miner said. “This move makes that world class education affordable.”
The cost to attend UC with the metro tuition rate is now similar to the University of Kentucky, the largest public school in the state. UK’s tuition and fees for in-state students is $13,212 this academic year.
