University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson approved for $50,000 raise, contract extended through 2028

EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story incorrectly noted University of Northern Iowa President Mark Nook's new salary. He will make $372,110 annually, effective July 1.

The State of Iowa Board of Regents handed out a pair of raises to university leaders Wednesday, while employment contracts were also extended during their meeting in Iowa City.

University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson will receive a $50,000 bump in her annual base salary, effective July 1. The 7.69 percent raise increases her yearly salary to $700,000.

Wilson has received $100,000 in raises since 2022. She was approved for a $50,000 raise during last summer’s Board of Regents compensation meeting, raising her salary for the past year to $650,000.

The president’s base salary for the academic year 2021-2022 was $600,000. Wilson took over the presidential role in Iowa City in 2021.

UNI President Mark Nook given 4.8 percent raise

University of Northern Iowa President Mark Nook was awarded a $15,000 raise to his annual base salary, which will also go into effect on July 1. According to a report from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Nook’s salary will receive a 4.8 percent bump to $372,110 annually.

Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen’s employment contract was extended through June 30, 2026. Her base salary of $650,000 remained the same. Wintersteen took over as Iowa State’s president in 2017.

The Board of Regents met in Iowa City this week and used Tuesday’s closed session to discuss presidential compensation. The board made no additional comments during Wednesday’s open meeting. The compensation and extensions were approved unanimously.
