The University of Michigan's Board of Regents will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday to hire the school's next president.

The name of the president has yet to be announced. That typically happens at the board meeting. State law allows the board to conduct the entire search in private, without public input. The university does not have to release names of finalists or anyone who has applied.

The new president will take over from interim President Mary Sue Coleman,  who served as president from 2002 to 2014.   She was brought back to campus in January to replace Mark Schlissel, who was fired by the board  for having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate employee. Schlissel remains a faculty member at the school.

When a new president is named, Coleman will stick around for two months as a special adviser to the university to help with the transition. She will then revert back to her president emerita status.
