University Professor Babysits Single Mum’s Two Kids So She Can Take Final Exam

A university professor has been praised for babysitting a single mother’s two children while she took her final exam.

Student Monica Romero, 28, had to bring her children Marcus, four, and Mikayla, five, to her test in military history at the University of Louisville after a babysitter cancelled at the last minute.

She had no option but to take the test and leave the children outside the door of the classroom.

However, the exam was disrupted when Marcus banged on the door. When her professor, Dr Daniel Krebs, stood up, Ms Romero thought he was going to have her thrown out of the exam, but instead he told her to continue with the test and said that he would take care of the kids.

A photo of Dr Krebs playing computer games with the two children in the hallway outside his classroom, taken by a classmate of Ms Romero’s and posted on Facebook, has gone viral.

“The class didn’t know they were there until Marcus came banging on the door,” Ms Willard told ABC News.

“Dr. Krebs said, ‘Don’t worry. Go take your test. I’ve got them.’”

Dr Krebs told ABC News that his actions weren’t that heroic.

“A person like Monica, she’s a non-commissioned officer going to school, she’s a mom of two kids. I mean that’s the kind of thing that’s really impressive,” he said.

“Me handling her kids for 40, 45 minutes, that’s not impressive.”

He said Marcus tried to teach him the names of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and that Mikayla climbed on his shoulders and pulled his hair.

The picture was taken by Ms Romero’s friend Victoria Henry. In her Facebook post, Ms Henry wrote: “Witnessed one of the most caring gestures of my college career tonight.

“As a friend of mine was preparing to take our final exam for military history, her babysitter canceled on her.

“I suggested she just bring them and have them play on their tablet in the hall rather than skipping the exam.

“After just a few minutes of the kids playing loudly, the professor went to the hall and simply started to play with them to keep them occupied while their mom took the final.

“Such a kind and caring act committed when the reaction could have been the complete opposite.”
