University of Rhode Island men's basketball will play rescheduled La Salle game Jan. 19

There is once again a full Atlantic 10 men’s basketball schedule set for the Ryan Center.

The University of Rhode Island will host La Salle on Jan. 19, a makeup of an earlier postponement due to COVID-19. The Rams now have just one league game outstanding as they seek to work around virus pauses within other programs and their own.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Explorers, who face Philadelphia rival Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 17 before hitting the road. URI originally had a week-long gap in its schedule between a Jan. 15 trip to Massachusetts and a Jan. 22 home date with George Washington. The Rams had a second such break the following month filled by a reset home game with Dayton on Feb. 14.

La Salle was scheduled to visit on Sunday before health and safety protocols left them short of the seven scholarship players and one coach required to take the floor. URI ended a 20-day layoff with American International instead, dispatching the Yellow Jackets by a 70-55 count.

A statement from the Rams said the game would be played at 7 p.m. The conference release listed the game time as to be announced. A later slot is possible depending on broadcast partners — URI and the Flyers will tip at 9 p.m. to CBS Sports Network.

George Mason is the lone remaining game in limbo for the Rams. URI was scheduled to visit the Patriots on Wednesday before they reported COVID-19 issues within their program. The Rams make a pair of other trips to the Mid-Atlantic region, visiting VCU on Feb. 8 and meeting the Colonials on Feb. 19.

URI (9-3) was finally set to open league play on Saturday at Davidson. The Wildcats (11-2) carry a 10-game winning streak into the 2 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network. The Rams left Thursday to avoid a snowstorm that hit the New England region during the Friday morning commute.
