University of West Florida Dance Marathon raises over $55K for Children’s Miracle Network

The 10th annual University of West Florida Dance Marathon at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart recently raised $55,694 in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

During UWF Dance Marathon, participants stand on their feet and dance for 10 hours in support of children who cannot. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart to support the purchase of a new Neonatal transport unit.

The hospital is a member of the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness for more than 170 pediatric hospitals across North America. About 300 students participated in-person. Winners were split into two divisions. The overall winner was Kappa Delta sorority and most spirited was Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Escambia County to host career fair at Pensacola Bay Center

Escambia County will host a career fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pensacola Bay Center, 210 E Gregory St. The event is free and open to members of the public looking for a career with Escambia County. The event will take place in the Bay Center’s meeting space on the second floor.

During the event, potential candidates will have the chance to speak one-on-one with representatives from the county’s various departments including public works, corrections and mass transit, and will also be able to apply for jobs in-person at the career fair. Human resources employees will be available to share more information on all the benefits the county has to offer such as healthcare coverage, salaries, the $2,000 recruitment incentive, tuition reimbursement and retirement packages.

DOH Santa Rosa WIC hosts 2022 Walk for Mommy & Me

The Walk for Mommy & Me will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter’s Park, at 5224 Munson Highway, Milton.

The walk around the park will feature booths with information of interest to parents, including nutrition and car seat safety, activities, and games for children. The Crash Test Dummies, other local mascots, and local first responders will be onsite during the event.

The Big Red Bus will be onsite during the event for blood donations. Individuals who donate blood will receive a T-shirt and gift card from One Blood.

The walk is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County Women, Infants, and Children Program and supports the Department’s Healthiest Weight Campaign, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and good nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Be My Neighbor Day offers family fun focused on neighborly values

It will be a beautiful day in the neighborhood when WSRE PBS KIDS hosts Be My Neighbor Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the WSRE Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio at Pensacola State College.

This free family-fun event focuses on early learning, health and safety resources, and the neighborly values of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” and the late Fred Rogers.

Outdoors in the WSRE Amos Studio parking lot, more than 20 participating organizations will greet families with hands-on activities for children. Indoors, episodes of “Daniel’s Tiger’s Neighborhood” will be shown on the Amos Studio big screen.

Guests are encouraged to bring food donations for Manna Food Pantries and dress in costume as Daniel Tiger or another character from a favorite PBS KIDS show. A children’s costume parade will be hosted by Downtown Dave, on-field host for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

OsteoStrong Pensacola and Gulf Breeze to help prevent child abuse

OsteoStrong has teamed up with Kyra’s Champions, a 501(c)(4) charity advocating for policy changes that protect children at risk of family violence, to raise awareness during National Child Abuse Awareness Month by launching the StrongME SafeKIDS campaign.

The collaboration will allow the public, as well as new and existing OsteoStrong members in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, to participate through the #StrongMESafeKIDS campaign. This will be an annual event to raise awareness and generate donations to advance initiatives aimed at reducing child abuse.

During the month of April, OsteoStrong Pensacola and Gulf Breeze will donate 100% of new member enrollment fees to Kyra’s Champions. In addition, each location will serve as a collection site for the public to drop in and make a donation.

Gulf Coast Kid’s House raising Child Abuse Prevention Month awareness

Gulf Coast Kid’s House is celebrating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by inviting local restaurants and eateries to raise funds and awareness all month long. Interested establishments will commit to serving one “blue” item for the month of April, with a portion of proceeds from that item going to support victims of child abuse in Escambia County.

During April, Blue Ribbon Establishments are going “blue” in support of the nationally recognized color for child abuse prevention. Studer Family Children’s Hospital was the first Blue Ribbon Establishment on-board, and their cafeteria will be offering a special blue drink throughout the month.
