Unlocking the Archive: Basketball homecoming courts for area schools

Many associate the fall with homecomings. A select football game on a Friday night when a queen and king are crowned followed by a dance often on Saturday night.

But for many schools, basketball season was also a time to celebrate a homecoming complete with its own court.

Back in the 1970s several local schools announced their homecoming courts in the Chillicothe Gazette.

Let's see if anyone recognizes some of the names (and faces):

Huntington High School 1975: Debbie Taylor (center), was named homecoming queen. Her court included: Teresa Clark, Cassie Vernier, Elaine Strausbaugh, and Cheryl Chaney.

Southeastern High School 1972: Vicki Weaver, Judy Hill and Carolyn Detty were the seniors up for homecoming queen. Other members of the court included: Debbie Markel, freshmen attendant; Diane Markel, junior attendant, and Jody Wallingford, sophomore attendant.
