Unofficial results show Republicans control Waterford RTM, with recounts pending
Nov. 8—WATERFORD — During Tuesday's election, voters elected 26 members to the Representative Town Meeting ― 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats across four voting districts.
Races in all four districts were close enough to warrant recounts, according to Town Clerk Dave Campo. The recounts will take place Thursday night unless the candidates waive the process, according to Cheryl Larder, moderator for the First District election.
Recounts are triggered automatically if the margin of victory between the person who received the lowest number of votes among winners, and the person who received the highest number of votes among losers, is less than 0.5%, or 20 votes, Larder said.
The RTM, the town's legislative body, takes final action on such town business as budgets, appropriations and ordinances after the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance have acted.
Seats on the RTM are allotted by population size in each voting district. According to the town charter, each seat correlates to 550 registered voters in the district.
The Fourth District added a seat since the last election.
Elected to two-year terms were:
First District
Newcomer Democrat Kayla Mullen, newcomer Democrat Ursula Moreshead, incumbent Democrat Lindsay Khan, incumbent Democrat Nick Gauthier, incumbent Republican Danielle Steward-Gelinas and incumbent Republican Timothy Condon.
Condon received 538 votes. Republican Richard Holmes was the next highest vote-getter with 515.
Second District
Incumbent Democrat Mary Childs, incumbent Democrat Ted Olynciw, incumbent Democrat Kyrah Augmon-Bossa, incumbent Democrat Kristin Gonzalez, incumbent Republican Kevin Girard and newcomer Republican Mark Campo.
Augmon-Bossa received 508 votes. Republican Kate MacKenzie was the next highest vote-getter with 491.
Third District
Incumbent Democrat Tim Fioravanti, newcomer Democrat Kathy Mullen Kohl, incumbent Republican Ryan Healy, incumbent Republican Jennifer Antonino-Bracciale, incumbent Republican Paul Goldstein, incumbent Republican Harry Colonis and newcomer Republican Shawn Monahan.
Mullen Kohl received 549 votes. Democrat Guy Calkins was the next highest vote-getter with 533.
Fourth District
Incumbent Democrat Susan Driscoll, newcomer Democrat Jerry Fischer, incumbent Republican Tom Dembek, incumbent Republican David Sugrue, incumbent Republican Michael Bono, newcomer Republican Christina Jessuck and newcomer Republican Matthew Keatley.
Fischer received 738 of votes. Democrat Erica Casper was the next highest vote-getter with 735.
According to Larder, the next highest vote-getters have to decide whether to waive a recount.
