Unseasonably warm stretch of weather breaking temperature records in North Jersey

North Jersey residents are in store for days of unseasonably warm temperatures that has already set records in some parts of the region, according to weather experts.

The National Weather Service forecast called for highs in the upper 70s into the weekend.

Here's a look at some records that were broken on Thursday in North Jersey, according to Bob Ziff of the North Jersey Weather Observers:

  • Paterson set a record with 83 degrees, topping the previous high of 80 set back on the same date in 1963.

  • The borough of Sussex also hit 83, dethroning the high of 82 in 1963.

  • Bergenfield hit 81 degrees, besting the previous mark of 77 back in 2010.

Also on Thursday it reached 80 degrees in Ramsey and 78 in Vernon, Ziff stated.

More records could fall

The forecast for Friday and Saturday may also bring more record temperatures.

Bergenfield's forecast calls for high temperatures of 77 on Friday, followed by 79 on Saturday. Both would match the borough marks for each date set in 1989, Ziff said.

Paterson is projected to hit 80 degrees on Saturday, while Saturday should bring highs of 79 in Bergenfield and 78 in Cedar Grove. The Cedar Grove temperature would set a new record in the township for Oct. 28, breaking the previous mark of 76 set in 2010, according to Ziff.
