The borough of Sussex also hit 83, dethroning the high of 82 in 1963.
Bergenfield hit 81 degrees, besting the previous mark of 77 back in 2010.
Also on Thursday it reached 80 degrees in Ramsey and 78 in Vernon, Ziff stated.
Today will feature mostly sunny skies with the potential for some record highs. Widespread 70s for late October is about 10-15° above normal. Here are the records for 10/26:

More records could fall
The forecast for Friday and Saturday may also bring more record temperatures.
Bergenfield's forecast calls for high temperatures of 77 on Friday, followed by 79 on Saturday. Both would match the borough marks for each date set in 1989, Ziff said.
Paterson is projected to hit 80 degrees on Saturday, while Saturday should bring highs of 79 in Bergenfield and 78 in Cedar Grove. The Cedar Grove temperature would set a new record in the township for Oct. 28, breaking the previous mark of 76 set in 2010, according to Ziff.
