Unseasonal Snow and Freezing Temperatures Brought by Antarctic Air Hits Dunedin, New Zealand

A blast of wintry weather brought snowfall and wind to Dunedin, New Zealand, causing the springtime temperatures to plummet well below the average.

The nation’s weather bureau MetService issued a strong wind and heavy snow warning for the Dunedin area, as well as South Island’s southern edge.

Conditions were tipped to ease in the evening, according to MetService.

The colder weather was brought to New Zealand by a storm system spinning south of the country, bringing cold air from Antarctica. Dunedin recorded a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius at midday, according to local media.
