An unseen photograph of King Charles has been shared to celebrate his first birthday as monarch

If you didn't already know, today is King Charles III's 74th birthday – and his very first birthday as King. To honour this super special milestone birthday, Buckingham Palace has released a new, never-before-seen photograph of Charles too.
It’s expected that Charles will be spending his birthday privately with no official engagements planned. However, prior to the image being released, many members of the royal family have posted public tributes to the king already.
The Royal Family also used the unseen (and might we add *atmospheric*) photograph to announce a special new role that Charles has taken on as well; posting it to Instagram and Twitter today, the image shows the King leaning against an ancient oak tree in Windsor. Dressed in smart beige attire as the sun beams down through the branches above, it truly is an effortless photo to announce the following news... that Charles has become Park Ranger of Windsor Great Park, seventy years after his father, Prince Philip was appointed to the post.
The caption read: “The Ranger of The Great Park offers oversight and guidance to the Deputy Ranger and his team in the day-to-day stewardship of one of the country’s oldest estates.
The role can be traced back to 1559, when Sir Henry Neville was appointed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Over the last 460 years, the post has usually been held by the Sovereign or family members, including The King’s father and grandfather.
The Duke of Edinburgh was the longest serving Ranger of Windsor Great Park – holding the role from 1952 until his passing in 2021. His Royal Highness took an active role in overseeing developments, such as the reintroduction of 🦌 Red Deer into the Deer Park in 1979 and the development of 🏠 The Savill Garden Visitor Centre and ⛲ Virginia Water Pavilion.”
Social media users were quick to compliment the new photograph, with one user writing on Twitter: “Great photo, the Park is in good hands.”
Someone else commented: “Wow such a beautiful picture to announce great news on The King’s birthday!! I love it so much.”
Over on Instagram, one user made the comparison to his father who previously had the role. “HM looks very much like his father in this picture.”
