Unusual doubleheader slated for Sunday: Mother’s Day vs Celtics’ Game 7
Sunday has turned into a doubleheader for many people. The Boston Celtics play their do-or-die Game 7 in the NBA Semi-finals. At the same time, it’s Mother’s Day. There is no playbook for this. Sports fans love Game 7 playoffs but they also, of course, love their moms.
Here are some ideas on how to play this.
“I’m just trying to figure out what time the game is on. I think it might be the middle of the day which could be difficult,” said Tony Bolduc. Tony and 8-month-old Lyla are not the only ones going bananas because of a Celtics game 7 and Mother’s Day colliding. “You make the Mother’s Day brunch early 11. That will give you time for a 3:30 game,” said one Celtics fan. “If we are all together,” a woman said.
On Mother’s Day, flowers are always a nice touch but if you plan to take in the game at the same time, there are some do’s and don’ts. Jodi RR Smith, an etiquette consultant with Mannersmith, says you need to know the mom you are celebrating. “If your mom pulls the Mom’s Day card you are going to have to be a big person and you are going to have to tape the game and turn off all social media so you can watch when your celebration is over,” said Smith. We joked with Smith asking for her take on watching the game on your phone while at brunch. “Mom is too smart for that and your spouse is on to you. That is a big no-no,” said Smith.
One mom was shopping for Celtics gear at the pro shop at TD Garden. “As a mother, I’m totally in it for him and I’m really excited for him. As long as he enjoys it I’ll be happy. That is the perfect gift? Yes, absolutely,” said the mother.
One other idea our expert had especially for newer Moms with young kids. Let Dad take the kids and go watch the game and give Mommy some quiet time.
