Celebrating Len Thomas concert at Muskingum U

NEW CONCORD − A memorial concert celebrating Len Thomas will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 1 in Brown Chapel of Muskingum University in New Concord.

Thomas was a Cambridge native and 1952 alum of Muskingum University. He worked for Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians and was the keyboard editor for Shawnee Press. He returned to Cambridge in 2002 and played piano for functions and groups at Muskingum University and worked with Chuck Snyder and the Cardinal Chorale.

Many of Thomas’ choral and instrumental arrangements will be performed along with other meaningful selections. Performers include the Muskingum Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Muskingum Jazz Group, Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds Jazz Ensemble, Cardinal Chorale and family members of Thomas singing vocal selections.

The concert is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted for the Leonard Thomas Endowed Scholarship. For more information, call 740-826-8095 or email music@muskingum.edu.

Back to Broadway at Secrest Auditorium

ZANESVILLE − Franc D'Ambrosio will present "Back to Broadway" at 3 p.m. Oct. 1, at the Secrest Auditorium and Music Hall, 334 Shinnick St. D'Ambrosio performed the lead role in "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway more than 2,100 times.

This is the opening concert for the 84th season of the Zanesville Concert Association. Youth and college students can be admitted free with valid identification. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Salvation Army Auxiliary to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary will meet in regular session at noon Oct. 2, at the Salvation Army, 515 Putnam Ave. Lunch will be served. Guest speaker is attorney Mike Bryan on estate planning. Members will also plan and register for holiday projects.

Flu shot clinic scheduled

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville-Muskingum County Public Health District will be offering a drive-thru flu shot clinic for residents of Muskingum County from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3, at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

Bring your photo identification and insurance card. The flu vaccine will be available for those 6-months and older and the high dose vaccine is available for those 65 and older. The COVID-19 vaccine will be available for those 12 and older, depending on availability.

Digital fundraiser at local McDonald's

ZANESVILLE − A digital fundraiser to support local high school sports programs will be Oct. 6, at area McDonald's restaurants with 20% of all sales via the McDonald's app being donated.

Participating restaurants are at 2739 Maple Ave., 1638 Maysville Pike, 4995 East Pike and 2605 West Pike. Each has chosen a local high school to receive funds. Each school will receive a minimum of $250.

Dresden Fire Department holding open house

DRESDEN − The Dresden Volunteer Fire Department will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7, at the fire station, 21 W. Ninth St.

The event will feature tours of the station and trucks, Paw Patrol characters, fire safety house, a bounce house and hot dogs and beverages.

Fall Festival at Zane Grey Museum

NORWICH − The annual fall festival will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7, at the National Road and Zane Grey Museum, 8850 East Pike.

There will be activities for kids, campfire cooking and author visits. Kind Hands 4 Paws will have adoptable dogs. Food will be by Kathy's Burgers, Stuff Food Truck and Mix It Up Lemonade. Music will be by Steve and Beverly Pottmeyer from 9 to 11 a.m.

A National Road driving tour between the museum and the John and Annie Glenn Museum on Main Street in New Concord. Anyone turning in a completed passport will be entered into a drawing for two $50 gift cards. Passports are available at 9 a.m. day of the event at the Glenn Museum.

Program on shoulder pain at ZSC

ZANESVILLE − A Spirit of Women program on solving shoulder pain from Genesis HealthCare System will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19, at Campus Center of Zane State College.

Dr. Thai Trinh will present information about treatments for shoulder pain available at Genesis Orthopedic Center and other solutions to relieve shoulder pain and improve mobility. There will be a question and answer session.

Walk to Remember on Oct. 15

ZANESVILLE − Genesis Women and Children Services will have a Walk to Remember at 1 p.m. Oct. 15, at the Gorsuch Fitness Trail at Genesis Hospital for those who lost an infant to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillborn or newborn death.

There will be a brief program before the walk. Messages and memories will be written on rocks and placed in the memorial garden. For more information, call 740-450-6262 or email jbell@genesishcs.org.

Veterans Extravaganza upcoming

NEW LEXINGTON − The Perry County Veterans Extravaganza will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 25, at the coliseum at the Perry County Fairgrounds.

The event will feature resources, food, games, prizes and a turkey giveaway. Bring military discharge papers with photo identification or a Perry County veterans identification with proof of current residency.
