Celebrating Len Thomas concert at Muskingum U

NEW CONCORD − A memorial concert celebrating Len Thomas will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 1, in Brown Chapel of Muskingum University in New Concord.

Thomas was a Cambridge native and 1952 alum of Muskingum University. He worked for Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians and was the keyboard editor for Shawnee Press. He returned to Cambridge in 2002 and played piano for functions and groups at Muskingum University and worked with Chuck Snyder and the Cardinal Chorale.

Many of Thomas’ choral and instrumental arrangements will be performed along with other meaningful selections. Performers include the Muskingum Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Muskingum Jazz Group, Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds Jazz Ensemble, Cardinal Chorale and family members of Thomas singing vocal selections.

The concert is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted for the Leonard Thomas Endowed Scholarship. For more information, call 740-826-8095 or email music@muskingum.edu.

Blood drives planned

COSHOCTON − The American Red Cross will have blood driver from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at Coshocton Elementary School, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at Roscoe United Methodist Church, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at River View High School in Warsaw and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Coshocton Public Health District. Coshocton Schools closed next week

COSHOCTON − Coshocton City Schools will be off on Oct. 2 for the Coshocton County Fair and Oct. 3 for a teacher in-service day. Regular classes resume on Oct. 4.

Writing workshop planned for Oct. 14

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Write-On Writers Guild will hold a Joy of Writing workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14, at the Frontier Power Community Meeting Room, 770 S. Second St. Registration and continental breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m.

The event will include workshops, folders with handouts, writing exercises, a light lunch, new books for sale, bake sale, raffles and freebies. Presentations will be Wendy Koile on "Finding the Magic Again" and Cristie Merce on "How to Write Your Story with Scissors and Glue."

JH Museum to hold preschool program

COSHOCTON − A program for preschool aged children will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, for four weeks starting Oct. 26, at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, 300 N. Whitewoman St.

Kids ages 3 to 5 will learn how pioneers of the 1800s in Ohio lived this time and year and how they celebrated Thanksgiving. The program is free via support from the Schooler Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council.

JH Museum to host family paint night

COSHOCTON − A family paint night will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5, at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, 300 N. Whitewoman St.

The class is geared to ages 6 and older with a guardian. Each person will paint their own 16” x 20” stretched canvas using acrylic paints. All materials needed to complete the activity will be provided.

Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. A discount code for $3 off your total will be in the museum's fourth quarter newsletter in October. Register for the newsletter at jhmuseum.org/newsletter.
