The Mount Carmel St. Ann's Fourth Friday Festivals kicks off the season with an Americana theme May 27 and should continue each month through October in uptown Westerville.

Presented by the city of Westerville, Uptown Westerville Inc. and Mount Carmel, the monthly festival takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. every Fourth Friday.

Other themes include World of Dance, June; Listen to the Music, July; All about Sports, August; Homecoming, September; and Midnight Madness, October.

Uptown Westerville Inc. Executive Director Lynn Aventino said the May 27 Fourth Friday is also the weekend of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary’s Field of Heroes, which is why the Americana theme was chosen.

She said attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue or American-themed apparel, and vendors are also being asked to incorporate the theme into their booths.

Aventino said something new for this year’s Fourth Friday is a summer concert Series each month through September in the courtyard at City Hall, 21 S. State Street.

Singer/songwriter Luke Mossburg is to appear with his band to kickoff the series May 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Westerville can expect a fun and easy listening experience,” Mossburg said. “I started song writing years ago and that has since turned into what is now a band of friends playing country music originals together. We all like to have a good time and encourage others to do the same. We're looking forward to playing Westerville’s Fourth Friday.”

Others in the series include The Ark Band, playing roots reggae, calypso and soca music, June 24; The Drowsy Lads, playing Irish/American music, July 22; The Martini Affair, dance party band, Aug. 26; and LDNL (Lieutenant Dan’s New Legs), playing pop, dance and hip-hop music, Sept. 23.

Aventino said other Fourth Friday highlights include:

• Arts Alley with the Arts Council of Westerville located on West Main Street, where you are to also find David Myers Art Studio and Gallery.

• Dance Avenue on West College, featuring Generations Performing Arts Center, The Irish Dance Company and Fred Astaire Dance Studio.

• Food truck courts at Winter Street and the large parking lot by East Home Street (DJ at the Home Street food court).

• Interactive science stations; traveling entertainment; pop-up vendors throughout and kids’ entertainment and activities.

During all Fourth Friday events, Aventino said State Street is closed from just south of West Home Street to just north of Park Street. The following streets also have partial closures: Winter Street, East and West College Avenue, East and West Main Street and East Home Street.

State Street closes at 5:30 p.m. and the side streets a little earlier.

Aventino said streets open back up at 9:15 p.m., with State Street and West Main Street opening first.

From 4 to 10 p.m., on-street parking is restricted throughout these areas and on Vine Street.

No parking areas are to be denoted with signage by Westerville police the week of each event.

Aventino said the street closures are the same as in past years for the safety of the large crowds attending the event.
