Northern Michigan is staying busy this winter with plenty of events on the schedule. Here's a list of what's coming up this week:

  • The Fat & Flurrious Fat Tire Bike Race will take place at 10 a.m. on Jan. 14 at Boyne City's Avalanche Mountain. Organizers remind participants that this race and course are not for beginners, it is a challenging and difficult course. The race will start at 10 a.m., with day of registration taking place from 8-9 a.m.

  • Whiting Park in Boyne City is kicking off its schedule of centennial celebration events with an educational program about raptors on Jan. 14. Beginning at 11 a.m., the program will run for one and a half hours and feature several live birds of prey from the North Sky Raptor Sanctuary in Interlochen. After the program, all attendees are invited to hike Whiting Park’s Storybook Trail, which currently displays the book "Owl Moon."

  • Enjoy sledding and s'mores at Kiwanis Park in Harbor Springs this winter. From 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 14 and Feb. 4, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Jan. 28 and Feb. 18, sledding and s'mores will be available for families at Kiwanis Park.

  • Hear the hits of Elvis Presley on Jan. 14 at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. At 8 p.m., the center will host "Celebrating Elvis Presley’s Records from Sun Studios," including Presley's early albums, performed by Tyler Hilton and Hot Club of Cowtown.

  • Join Good Hart Artist in Residence Christina Clancy and Little Traverse Conservancy staff at the Offield Family Viewlands for a winter forest bathing and writing experience from 2-5 p.m. on Jan. 19. Participants will enjoy a roughly one-hour winter walk at the Viewlands, where they will be given several writing prompts. After the walk, they'll meet at the Petoskey District Library lower-level classroom to write and share.
