Apr. 1—Native Plant Sale

The Cross Timbers Chapter of the Native Plant Society will hold its Native Plant Sale April 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Monday Trade Days, Highway 180 and Santa Fe Drive, in booths 96, 97, 120 and 121.

Sun, partial and full shade plants will be available, as well as flowers, ground covers, shrubs and vines for butterflies, bees, birds, moths, hummingbirds and nectar-loving insects.

Parker County Master Gardener's Annual Plant Sale

Saturday, April 8, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Monday Trade Days Grounds at Heritage Park, 317 Santa Fe Drive.

Native pollinator plants, grasses, annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, roses, shrubs, succulents and more.

Bring your plant gardening questions to our "Ask a Master Gardener" table!

Proceeds help fund horticultural, educational and local projects in Parker County.

Spring Fling

Parker County Extension Education Association and members invites everyone for a Spring Fling that this year will be a Mardi Gras New Orleans theme.

The event will be on Tuesday, April 18, at Couts United Methodist Church in the gym, located at 802 N. Elm St. in Weatherford. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 2 p.m. There will be special programs on Mardi Gras and New Orleans, Container Gardens, and Avoiding Scams. There will be a baked potato lunch along with dessert. There will be a raffle table, bake sale, and items to buy from Extension Education clubs.

The cost is $15 per person. Tickets can be purchased from the Parker County Extension Office and from club members. The event supports Parker County 4-H scholarships as well as Extension Education Club community services.

One sheet, One pan, One oven Cooking Class

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a cooking class with the focus on Sheet Pan meals. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the Parker County Extension Office, located at 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford.

This will be a hands-on class where participants will learn about sheet pan meals ideas and will prepare a sheet pan meal. Participants will take home ideas and recipes.

WC fine arts presents seven April events

April is a busy month for fine arts at Weatherford College. Make sure to mark your calendar for these upcoming free events.

All events begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Marjorie Alkek Fine Arts Center unless otherwise noted.

On Thursday, April 6, WC's master pianist Hyeyoung Song will perform a Beethoven Piano Sonata concert.

Duane Durrett's annual "It's All About the Music" concert is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, in the third-floor community room of the Emerging Technologies and Workforce Building. The evening will feature Patrick Hill on saxophone, Kelly Durbin and Fredrick Sanders on piano, Durrett on drums and Lou Harlas on bass.

On Friday, April 14, "Opera Goes to Broadway" will spotlight WC's opera students singing selections from the best of musical theatre, directed by Rick Rainey.

Saturday, April 15, will feature WC's second annual flute festival open to musicians of all ages and abilities. The event will end with a public concert at 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 18, the WC Jazz Orchestra performs its Tribute to Jazz Composers concert. The evening will spotlight American jazz music and its influence.

The public is invited to the final round of the fifth annual WC International Piano Competition on Saturday, April 22. The event begins at 8 a.m. and will feature the top 12 pianists from 80 artists who applied from around the globe. The award ceremony for the competition will take place at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to follow at 5:30 p.m.

From April 27 to April 29, WC theatre students perform "The Bacchae," an ancient Greek tragedy written by the Athenian playwright Euripides during his final years in Macedonia.
