Upcoming programs at Massillon Public Library

MASSILLON − The Massillon Public Library has announced the following programs. Unless otherwise noted, programs are at the Main Branch, 208 Lincoln Way E. Register at www.massillonlibrary.org

  • Monday through Nov. 19: Massillon Public Library is participating as a collection point for purses and toiletries for the Junior League of Stark County’s Purse Project. A donation box is available in the library’s Main rotunda.

  • Monday at 6 p.m. in the MPL Auditorium, join the Vinyl Club for a presentation on “Unwed Sailor” from Billy Oliver, plus a surprise from Mark Villono and Sherie Brown. Bring along a record to spin, or enjoy what others play. No registration required.

  • Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Barry Askren Branch in Navarre, join the Askren Book Club in a discussion of Miranda Cowley Heller’s “Paper Palace.” No registration required.

  • Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., bring the family to view the classic film “Because of Winn Dixie,” Rated PG. No registration required.

  • Tuesday at 6 p.m., in MPL’s Duncan Meeting Room, experience joyful Jyoti Meditation with Gwen Miller. No registration required.

  • Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., MPL’s Technology staff will teach the first of two sessions on Microsoft Excel. Learn how to create and format basic spreadsheets. Registration is required.

  • Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. in MPL’s Local History and Genealogy Room, join fellow researchers for "LHG Workday Wednesday," an open-house style social research group. No registration required.

  • Oct. 24 from 1 to 2:30 pm. in MPL Auditorium, the Page Turners’ Book Club will meet to discuss Nien Cheng’s “Life and Death in Shanghai.” No registration required.

  • Oct. 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the MPL Auditorium, join other adults for a Monday Night Gaming Extravaganza. Learn new games or play old ones. Free snacks are included, so registration is required.

  • Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the MPL Auditorium, children age 6th grade and under can enjoy positive bedtime stories and create a calming glitter jar (not glass!) to reduce anxiety and worry. Registration is required.

  • Oct. 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., MPL’s Technology staff present the second in the Excel Basics series for those who attended the Oct. 19 session. Registration is required.

  • Oct. 26 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the MPL Teen Lounge, join others in Grades 7-12 at the Teen Matinee. October’s feature is "Bob’s Burgers" movie.

  • Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friends of Massillon Public Library monthly used book sale in the library garage on the corner of Lincoln Way and Second Street SE.

  • Oct. 29 from noon to 2:00 p.m., bring the family and children up to grade 6 to the Halloween Party Open House. Make and sample candy corn punch and other treats, make slime and other crafts, play games and hear slightly spooky stories. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

  • Oct. 31 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the MPL Auditorium, anyone in grade 3 and up (even teens or young adults who never learned this skill) are invited to join a free six-part series on Cursive Handwriting taught by Denise Condo. Additional dates are Nov. 2, 7, 9, 14, and 16. Each session will build from the previous, so registration is required and good for the whole series.
