Updated COVID boosters are here. Here's how and where to get an OKC appointment

New bivalent COVID-19 vaccines, updated to match the omicron subvariants making up the vast majority of cases in Oklahoma, have arrived in the state and are available to anyone 12 and older.

The updated boosters are likely to give Oklahomans added protection ahead of a possible increase in cases this winter, like the past two winters have brought.

And since flu season is around the corner: Many locations will be able to offer COVID-19 boosters and flu shots at the same time, and it’s safe to receive them the same day.

Oklahoma City-County Health Department

Bivalent vaccines should be available starting Thursday through the city-county health department, a spokeswoman for the department said. People can call one of the department’s clinic locations to make an appointment up to three days in advance.

  • OCCHD North, 2600 NE 63, 405-419-4200

  • OCCHD South, 6728 S Hudson Ave., 405-419-4119

  • OCCHD West, 4330 NW 10, 405-419-4150

The city-county health department also has a list of other vaccination sites on its website at vaxokc.com.

Oklahoma Health Department

The state’s vaccine scheduling portal allows people to schedule a dose at one of several sites across the state. The Health Department advises calling ahead to a site to ensure bivalent vaccines are in stock before booking an appointment.

The portal is available at vaccinate.oklahoma.gov.

CVS

Several CVS locations in and around Oklahoma City have bivalent COVID-19 boosters in stock, according to its website. To make an appointment online, visit CVS’s immunization scheduling page.

Walgreens

Walgreens locations in and around Oklahoma City were offering bivalent COVID-19 booster appointments as early as Wednesday, according to its website. To make an appointment online, visit Walgreens’ vaccine scheduling page.

What else you need to know

Moderna's bivalent vaccine is for people 18 and older and Pfizer's is for people 12 and older. They can each be given at least two months after a primary series or booster shot.

When you go to make your appointment, have your insurance information and the date of your previous COVID-19 booster on hand. The same goes for anyone else you may be scheduling an appointment for.

COVID-19 vaccines are, for now, provided at no cost to you. Either your insurance or governmentprograms will cover the cost.

Can’t remember the date of your last vaccine? Check the state’s immunization information system (OSIIS) to see if you can find your COVID-19 vaccine records there.
