Updated: Dalton opens leads in race for circuit court clerk

Nov. 9—Circuit Court Clerk Sandra K. Dalton, a Republican, was leading challenger Megan LeRoux, a Democrat, on Tuesday night.

Dalton, who had 45,797 votes, has been been the clerk since 1998.

LeRoux had 33,203 votes. She also was the Democratic nominee for clerk in 2018.

The totals were based on all 83 Election Day precincts reporting, plus early voting and partial results from mail-in ballots.

—Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen English was overwhelmingly on the way to holding onto her seat.

English was appointed to the position in November 2021. A circuit court judge who is appointed must run in the next election for the right to continue in the seat.

With all 83 Election Day precincts reporting, plus early voting and partial mail-in ballot results, English had 98.8% support for keeping her seat.

—Frederick County State's Attorney Charlie Smith, a Republican, was unopposed.

Smith has been state's attorney since 2007.

—In the race for register of wills, Republican Mary C. Rolle had 43,767 votes and Democrat Chris Manners had 34,021 votes, also based on all 83 Election Day precincts.

—In the race for three judge of the orphans' court positions, Republicans Susan W. Wilson, Jimmy W. Trout and Wesley T. Gregory were ahead of Democrats Bonnie L. Nicholson, Michael A. Powell and Marvin Schwab.

Wilson led with 40,009 votes, followed by Trout with 39,453 and Gregory with 38,346.

Nicholson had 34,179 votes, Powell had 33,310 and Schwab had 30,219.
