An updated look at Illinois high school wrestling and basketball polls

MACOMB — Rankings for wrestling and boys and girls basketball are updated and several area programs are getting plenty of attention.

After being ranked No. 17 in last week’s Class 1A Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association poll, the Macomb grapplers fell one spot, dropping to No. 18 overall.

Individually, several Macomb wrestlers are getting attention.

At 220 pounds, Cade Westen is an honorable mention for Macomb.

At 195, Ethan Ladd is also an honorable mention.

Max Ryner at 182 pounds also gives Macomb another honorable mention wrestler.

At 152 pounds, Carter Hoge is also honorable mention for Macomb.

Jack Mansfield gives the Bombers another honorable mention, claiming a spot at 120 pounds.

In small schools girls’ basketball, Class 2A has set up shot in west-central Illinois at a regional hotbed.

Based on their win over Illini West last week, Quincy Notre Dame claimed the top spot in Class 2A, moving up from No. 2.

Despite the loss, the Chargers remained at No. 3.

Sherrard and Rockridge also received votes in the 2A top 10 poll.

In Class 1A, Brimfield is currently ranked No. 2, getting a trio of first-place votes.

Mendon Unity also moved up two spots, earning a No. 4 position this week while Brown County moved up from No. 9 to No. 7.

Elmwood and Havana also earned votes in the 1A poll.

AREA ROUNDUPS: Macomb swimmers split with Dunlap, Mon-Rose

For the boys, there was not much movement for area teams in the small schools poll.

Rockridge earned two points in the poll, falling outside the 2A Top 10 poll.

In Class 1A, Liberty held steady at No. 5, but did get a first-place vote.

Routt moved into the top ten, slotting in at No. 8.

Peoria Christian fell from No. 4 to No. 10.

Triopia received points, as did Monmouth United.
