UPDATED: Man remains in critical condition after shootout with officers

Feb. 1—PARKER COUNTY — A Weatherford man remains in critical condition following a shooting with law enforcement.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday as Parker County Sheriff's deputies were attempting to serve a warrant in the 300 block of Lipan Trail, according to a press release.

Within seconds of deputies approaching the residence, Gary Donald Evans, 56, came around a vehicle parked in the driveway with a handgun and began shooting at officers, the PCSO release reported. Three deputies immediately returned fire and Evans was hit multiple times.

Deputies then rendered medical aid, including tourniquets and a chest patch to Evans, who was flown by air ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital. As of Thursday afternoon, he remained in critical condition.

During an examination after the incident, one of the deputies was found to have a bullet strike in one of his handgun magazines on his duty belt. That deputy was later cleared medically at a hospital, the PCSO said.

Evans faces three charges of aggravated assault of a public servant, and Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
