Updated: Royal Farms in Urbana to get fast-charging stations for EVs

Oct. 9—Royal Farms in Urbana is scheduled to get fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations by next spring, an electric vehicle infrastructure manufacturer said.

The Royal Farms will install two stations of 180-kilowatt Direct Current Fast Chargers, each with two plugs, according to Wes Mangum, a spokesman for Blink Charging.

Depending on the car and its battery status, the 180-kilowatt chargers will be able to fully charge a car in 15 to 30 minutes, he wrote in an email.

Someone who answered the phone at Royal Farms on Monday said there already are Tesla charging stations there.

Blink Charging — a global manufacturer, owner and operator of electric vehicle charging equipment — is supplying charging stations at more than a dozen Royal Farms locations in Maryland and Delaware.

The company received a grant through the Maryland Department of the Environment's Electric Corridors Grant Program to provide these stations, a press release from Blink Charging said.

The program funds projects that encourage electric and hybrid vehicles and therefore reduce the output of carbon emissions.

Five other locations in Maryland and Delaware will receive the 180-kilowatt chargers from Blink Charging, and 12 more locations will get 60-kilowatt chargers.

In total, the company plans to install chargers at 30 stations, the release said. It is also planning to announce more locations to get the charging stations in the future, the press release said.
