Updates coming to Rockford Register Star comics pages

Corina Curry is the new news director of the Rockford Register Star.

We're updating our funny pages.

After surveying and listening to our loyal readers, the USA TODAY Network, of which we're a part, is giving our comics page a fresh new look.

The updated package is a combination of beloved favorites and emerging new artists.

Our new daily lineup will feature Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar the Horrible, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or For Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Luann, Baldo, Frank & Ernest and Born Loser.

If you're counting, that's 22 comics, two more than our current daily offering.

Sundays' Foxtrot will stay put, taking our Sunday comics from 21 to 23.

Readers also will continue to have access to even more comic strips at rrstar.com/comics.

These changes are not just in Rockford. USA TODAY Network newspapers across the country will see similar changes, allowing us, as a network, to present a more unified and consistent comics package across all publications.

Comics in the Register Star will switch starting on Oct. 2.

The new, uniform comics packages will allow Gannett to further invest in local journalism in communities across the country.

Subscription rates will not change with these changes.

Like many of you, comics were my first introduction to the newspaper.

I remember looking at the pictures before I could even read. When the words on those pages made my older siblings laugh, I learned to read so I could join the fun.

I never stopped reading. I hope you don't either.

Our comics lineup is changing, but the spirit stays the same.

We hope you enjoy the changes, and thank you for being loyal readers of the Rockford Register Star.
