Updates on former St. Mary’s nurse sentenced in sexual assault cases

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — At the Mesa County Justice Center late Friday afternoon, 62-year-old Christopher Lambros, wearing a brown prison jumpsuit, appeared in front of a full courtroom for his sentencing hearing.

District court judge Gretchen Larson ultimately sentenced Lambros to a total of 22 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 6 counts of attempted criminal sexual assault.

We’re very pleased with the outcome, primarily because all of the victim families are pleased with it.

Dan Rubinstein, Mesa County District Attorney

Court documents reveal investigators found thousands of photos and videos allegedly related to his assaults on hospital patients. Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein tells me his office identified 13 unique victims who were likely sexually assaulted between 2021 and 2022, but only 5 were able to be named during sentencing.

During the sentencing hearing, victims, families of deceased victims and hospital staff spoke, with some of them calling Lambros a monster. One of the victims said she has nightmares and flashbacks of the incident.

Rubinstein tells me he’s very concerned about the level of victimization that happened in this case and tells WesternSlopeNow the impact of Lambros’ misconduct also looms large over members of St. Mary’s staff who worked alongside him.

St. Mary’s Medical Center issued a statement that says, in part: “Learning the charges that Christopher Lambros has pleaded guilty to is disheartening… Our hospital is unable to provide comment or additional information regarding the criminal case….”

St. Mary’s, SCL Health, and Intermountain Healthcare are also being sued in a civil case on behalf of the victims.

In the meantime, Lambros will get credit for the 410 days he’s already served and he’ll be handed over to the Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
