Dane Goodwin, Notre Dame basketball’s second-leading scorer last season, will return to the Fighting Irish for his fifth year of eligibility, using the COVID-19 exemption granted to all athletes after the 2020-21 seasons.

The Upper Arlington graduate averaged 13.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season, shot 50.4% from the field, 45.8% from 3-point range and was named to the All-ACC third team.

Goodwin had 14 points and eight rebounds in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the Irish nearly upset third-seeded Texas Tech. It was Notre Dame’s first appearance in the Tournament since 2017.

He is one of a possible five fifth-year seniors who could return to help the Irish make a deeper run in next year’s postseason.

Goodwin is 14 games shy of breaking the school record for most career games played. He has played 126 through his four seasons.

At Upper Arlington, Goodwin set school records for points (1,951) and rebounds (817). In 2018 he was named Ohio Mr. Basketball and twice was named to the All-Ohio first team.
