Upscale lingerie store opens in Old Town Bluffton. Here’s what shoppers can expect
Molly Spears is a vet. She’s also the owner of Bluffton’s newest lingerie shop.
You would not be alone if you think that combination of careers is unusual.
“When I started telling people,” Spears said, “a lot of people did look at me a little bit funny.”
Her shop, En Dentelle, which means “made of lace” in French, opened recently in The Bridge at the corner of Bridge Street and Calhoun Street in Old Town Bluffton.
Spears said she’s lived in Bluffton for about 16 years, and during that time, she realized there wasn’t the same access to upscale lingerie shops here as people have in Charleston or other places she visited.
“Even bathing suits are difficult to find here,” she said.
About two years ago, on a trip to Denver, Spears went into a lingerie shop and had such a positive experience that she left knowing she wanted to open her own business.
“I felt confident and I felt beautiful, and I walked out of the store with a lot of lingerie,” she said. “That really cemented my desire to open a store here in Bluffton.”
Her lack of retail experience was not going to stop her.
“I’m ambitious,” she said, explaining that she knew her husband and friends would be behind her. She set out to learn what she didn’t know from others in the business.
“I really want this store to succeed,” she said.
Spears has even put her job at Coastal Veterinary Clinic on the back-burner while she gets the new business going.
She sees one of her main goals as education on what a difference a well-fitting bra can make in not only in how a person looks but also how they feel.
“I just want people to be comfortable,” she said. “It can really set the tone for the day — it’s the first thing you put on — and can empower you.”
Customers are invited into the store for a fitting not only for size but also for ideas about style. The store also is available for private events, such as bridal parties, and an online shop offers items shipped directly to a customer’s home.
“We can definitely be a resource,” Spears said.
En Dentelle offers lingerie from Natori, Aubade, Lise Charmelle, Cosa Bella, Atelier Amour, PrimaDonna, Marie Jo and others. In addition to swimsuits, the lineup includes bras, underwear, shapewear, bridal wear, bodysuits and sleepwear.
Bra sizes start a 30-inch band and go up to size 44i.
“We can’t be everything to everybody but, if i don’t have something I can get it,” Spears said.
