Uptick In West Village Coronavirus Cases: Rate Passes 2 Percent

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — New data released on Wednesday shows that coronavirus rates in Greenwich Village remain low, but the ZIP code containing the West Village has now jumped over 2 percent.

The new data, which shows COVID-19 testing results for every New York City ZIP code between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8, shows a continued citywide increase in the percentage of positive coronavirus tests.

The three ZIP codes that contain parts of Greenwich Village — 10011, 10012 and 10014 — had a combined 70 new coronavirus cases in the seven-day period.

Out of the three ZIP codes, 10014, which contains the West Village and Meatpacking District, had the highest positive rate at 2.06 percent.

Here is the updated COVID-19 testing data between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8 in the three ZIP codes that make up Greenwich Village.

  • 10011 — 2,333 people tested, 31 new cases, 1.33 percent positivity

  • 10012 — 1,418 people tested, 12 new cases, 0.85 percent positivity

  • 10014 — 1,308 people tested, 27 new cases, 2.06 percent positivity

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that the city would resurrect the release of ZIP Code-specific COVID-19 data. The city had stopped publishing it to avoid confusion with the state's geographically-based color-coded "zones."

De Blasio said worrying signs that the coronavirus is reasserting itself prompted officials to bring back the ZIP Code data, with some tweaks, to help inform New Yorkers.

The overall positivity rate has also continued to climb, hitting an average of 2.52 percent over the last week in New York City as of Thursday.

Additionally, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced a new 10 p.m curfew for bars, gyms, and restaurants across New York City and the state.
