Uptown park getting makeover, new name by 2025

A Queen City park is getting a makeover.

Through a partnership between the city of Charlotte and Charlotte City Center Partners (CCCP), work on rejuvenating Polk Park began with the goal of providing a place for the public to meet and celebrate.

Community members will also be able to give input on different features and designs.

Plans to redevelop Polk Park were approved by the city in March. The plans also include renaming the park after philanthropist and former Bank of America CEO and Chairman Hugh McColl Jr.

Set in the center of Charlotte at Trade and North Tryon Streets, the 1/3-acre park hasn’t been used in a long time because of poor landscaping, poor lighting, and a difficult-to-maintain fountain, according to the city of Charlotte

An architect for the project will be named soon as the Hugh McColl Jr. Park Coalition continues raising funds to redevelop the park. Construction is expected to be finished by the summer of 2025.
