Rebel theater group takes new look at 'Beauty and the Beast'

Rebel Alliance Theatre will present “Beauty and the Beast” by Marty Duhatschek over two weekends in September. This season, the Rebel group will explore the experience of LGBTQ+ people.

For “Beauty and the Beast,” the cast and crew have taken a closer look at the classic fairy tale. The play begins with a Storyteller telling one of the characters, “You aren’t in this story.” The show focuses on how LGBTQ+, or any marginalized group of people, feel when the story doesn’t include them.

Director Keegan Burnett-Connelly said, “Our production isn’t your grandmother’s 'Beauty and the Beast.'”

Note that this show contains themes that may not be comfortable for all audiences — parental guidance is encouraged.

Show times are 7 p.m. Sept. 22, 23, 29 and 30 and will be performed at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh.

Tickets start at $18 at ko-fi.com/rebelalliancetheatre or at the door.
