1. Growth in uptown and South End sees ‘mic drop’ numbers as skyline keeps changing
Charlotte’s growth is more noticeable than ever.
Charlotte Center City Partners’ state of the center city report provides insight into the city’s growth and the dollars and figures behind development in uptown and South End. The center city, which includes uptown, South End and midtown, has $6.9 billion of new development in the pipeline this year.
“Those are mic drop kind of numbers,” Michael Smith, CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners, told The Charlotte Observer about the area’s growth.

2. Charlotte rent is up 34 days into 2023. How do prices compare in NC?
Just over a month into 2023 and rent in Charlotte is already on the rise.
Median rents in Charlotte-area ZIP codes rose by and average of 4.2% over 2022 to $1,900, according to the latest data available from RentHub. That comes as experts say rents nationwide did start to decline later in the year and may fall further in 2023.
The Queen City’s rates often outpace that of other cities in North Carolina.

3. Secrets of the Picasso landscape exhibit: Behind the scenes at the Mint’s landmark show
The Mint Museum is in the midst of its most ambitious undertaking.
On Feb. 11, the first ever traveling exhibition of Picasso landscapes will make its way to the Queen City. “Picasso Landscapes: Out of Bounds” will feature dozens of paintings by the eponymous artist and will run through May 21.
