Urban Knoxville: Can you predict downtown's top storylines for the rest of 2022?

While I hope it's all rainbows and Sunspheres following this week's flooding, it looks like there's something in the water at Marble City Market.

I'm Ryan Wilusz, downtown reporter and urban explorer, bringing you the latest news and events happening in the Scruffy City.

For those who read this newsletter every week, thank you and congratulations – you probably have a good understanding of which downtown storylines will dominate the news for the rest of 2022.

Still, my breakdown of top downtown issues to keep an eye on includes the analysis you need to stay in the loop. No downtown FOMO for you!

As for fans of Fantail Fish & Frites and Paysan Sandwich Shop: Don't miss out on the final few days to enjoy meals from the respective Marble City Market vendors.

With their impeding departures, marking the fourth and fifth vendors to leave, I explore two big questions: Why is it happening, and how did we get here?

In other news, planes can go anywhere but Downtown Island Airport. I explore why aircraft are grounded, when a Gay Street bar is returning and other reader-submitted questions in this week's downtown mailbag.

Win local: River Breeze Event Center is coming together nicely ahead of UB40 on Aug. 18. Read all about the venue, pour some "Red Red Wine" and enter to win tickets.

Listen local: I was joined on this week's episode of "The Scruffy Stuff" by Silas Sloan, Anila Yoganathan, Liz Kellar and Devarrick Turner. What do these Knox News reporters have in common? They are all Knoxville newcomers and joined the podcast to share their first impressions of downtown since moving to the Scruffy City.

Drink local: Celebrate on Friday with Xul Beer Co., as it holds a coordinated release of three award-winning IPAs from the 2022 World Beer Cup. In addition to the brewery's gold-medal Rhymes Like Dimes, Xul will have the gold-medal Hop-Fu! by California-based North Park Beer Company and the silver-medal Blue Comet by Massachusetts-based Widowmaker Brewing Company. The celebration starts at 6 p.m.

Signing off and staying scruffy, I'm Ryan Wilusz. Cheers to the weekend!
