Ursina Borough is celebrating a big milestone in 2022. What is it?

Ursina Borough in southwestern Somerset County is celebrating a big milestone this weekend.

On Saturday, the borough council will host a free picnic to celebrate the community's 150th anniversary, with food, music, an anniversary cake and other activities planned. The celebration begins at 1 p.m. and is to be held at the Ursina American Legion Hall, 162 Park St.

"It will be fun to see the whole town come together and celebrate our 150th anniversary," said Brenda Nicholas, a member of the borough council.

Council President Mike Basinger and Mayor Ed Nace Jr. are to be in charge of the grilled foods, and other picnic dishes are to be provided as well. An old-fashioned cakewalk is also planned, Nicholas said, where people participate in a musical chairs-type activity; when the music stops, the person standing on the selected number receives a cake.

Historic photographs and other memorabilia from the town's history will be on display at the legion hall as well.

The borough was incorporated in 1872, Nicholas said. There are 244 residents living in the borough, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.
