Ursula von der Leyen and Josep Borrell arrive in Kyiv

This is the fourth visit of Ursula von der Leyen to Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale war initiated by Russia.

Von der Leyen  wrote that she had arrived with 15 other members of the College of Commissioners.

"We are here together to show that the EU stands by Ukraine as firmly as ever," she tweeted.

Borrell has also named this visit as "the strongest message of support" from the EU to all Ukrainians. He estimates the amount of European assistance to Ukraine in its full-scale war against Ukraine at about EUR 50 billion ($55 billion).

"Europe stood united with Ukraine from day one,” Borrell said.

“And will still stand with you to win and rebuild.”

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, stated that the first ever intergovernmental consultations between Ukraine and the European Union would take place on Feb. 2.

On Feb. 3, an EU-Ukraine summit is scheduled to be held, where Ukraine is to report results of the implementation of the seven recommendations made by the EU Commission when it was granted EU candidate status in June 2022. Ukraine is expecting positive feedback from the EU to further negotiate accession to the European Union as soon as possible.

However, some news outlets speculate the EU may give Ukraine the cold shoulder on the desire to join the union in the next two years.
