Ashland woman dead, driver hurt after semi-pickup collision in western Wayne County

CHESTER TWP. − One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night that temporarily closed a section of U.S. Route 250.

A commercial semi and a Ford Ranger collided between Wooster and Ashland near the New Pittsburg area.

Both lanes of Route 250 were shut down while crews from New Pittsburg Fire and Rescue and the Wooster Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol worked to clear the scene. The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m.

According a news release from the Highway Patrol:

The 2003 Ford Ranger was heading west on U.S. 250 when it slid into the eastbound lane and was struck in the passenger side by a 2008 Peterbilt semi heading east.

A passenger in the Ford Ranger, 44-year-old Heather R. Legg, of Ashland, died in the crash, according to investigators. The driver of the Ranger, a 41-year-old Ashland man, was taken to Wooster Community Hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The semi driver, a 59-year-old West Virginia resident, was not injured, according to the patrol.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, the patrol said.
