US Bank opens new branch in Lake Norman area, and plans for Charlotte area expansion

U.S. Bank is set to open two more branches after launching a new location in the Lake Norman area as the bank continues expansion efforts in the Charlotte region.

A new branch, at 9145 Sam Furr Road in Huntersville, opened in August. The next branch, at 8420 University City Blvd., is slated to open this month, according to a news release from the company.

The Minneapolis-based bank has also identified a location for a branch in South End, at 1801 South Blvd., bringing its total of branches in the Charlotte area to seven.

With the new branches, the bank looks forward to serving more customers and supporting small businesses in the Charlotte region, Ashley Cumberbatch, North Carolina branch banking market leader for U.S. Bank, said in the release.

Features at the new branches include stations designed for more direct and conversational interactions with staff, access to specialists in business banking, wealth management and mortgages, and drive-up ATMs.

The Huntersville branch will also include a “digital discovery center” designed to demonstrate mobile and digital banking features.

U.S. Bank opened its first Charlotte branch at 201 S. Tryon St. in October 2019. The bank employs more than 1,200 people in the region.

It remains a small player in a market dominated by Charlotte based Bank of America and Truist, and San Francisco-based Wells Fargo, which has its largest employee contingent in Charlotte.

U.S. Bank recently opened a branch in Huntersville and plans to open another in University City this month.
