US Coast Guard ends search for 23-year-old missing boater in North Myrtle Beach

Crews with the U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search Friday for the Loris man who has been missing since Thursday after a boat was reportedly taking on water and sinking in North Myrtle Beach.

Friends and family on Facebook have identified the missing boater as 23-year-old Tyler Doyle. He was last seen wearing a camo jacket and khaki pants while duck hunting on a 16-foot jon boat, according to the Coast Guard.

In a tweet, the Coast Guard announced that the search for Doyle was suspended as of Friday evening after about 45 hours and more than 694 miles covered.

“We offer our deepest sympathies to the family at this difficult time,” the tweet said.

The only other person on the jon boat was rescued from the north jetties, which links the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

A jon boat is a small open flat-bottomed boat used primarily in shallow marshy areas.

Crews from multiple agencies, including the Horry County Fire Rescue marine team and the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad, assisted with the search.
