US Coast Guard and Navy Offload $211 Million Worth of Drugs Seized in International Waters

US Coast Guard and Navy personnel on February 1 offloaded $211 million worth of drugs in San Diego, California. The drugs were seized in international waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the US Department of Defense said.

The narcotics consisted of approximately 11,400 pounds of cocaine and 9,000 pounds of marijuana, the department said.

The drugs were offloaded from the USS Gabrielle Giffords, which had just returned to its homeport of Naval Base San Diego on January 31, following a 17-month rotational deployment to the US 7th Fleet and 4th Fleet areas of operation, a US Navy statement said. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
