"Of the funds authorized for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) elsewhere in this Act, the committee intends that no less than $80 million be used for the procurement of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the bill by the House Committee on Armed Services reads.

At the same time, according to the document, the Pentagon chief is instructed to brief the congressional defense committees no later than Dec. 31, 2023, on the progress of using the allocated funds for the purchase and availability of ATACMS for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On June 14, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, said that Washington's change in rhetoric regarding some military assistance to Kyiv depends on a large set of factors. This also applies to long-range ATACMS missiles.

On May 30, U.S. President Joe Biden said that the issue of providing Ukraine with U.S. ATACMS missiles is "still in play." A resolution calling on Biden to provide the missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been tabled in the U.S. Congress.

Earlier, the Department of Defense said that the provision of UK Storm Shadows to Ukraine did not affect Washington's position on long-range missiles.

At the same time, U.S. congressmen continue to urge Biden to provide Kyiv with longer-range weapons.
