US election results map: Live updates by state
Joe Biden has now become the 46th president of the United States, defeating Donald Trump in an election fraught with division and unrest.
On Saturday evening, Mr Biden had overtaken Mr Trump’s vote count in key swing states Pennsylvania and Nevada, propelling him to the White House with 290 Electoral College votes.
The developments came after Mr Trump railed against the Democrats, accusing them of electoral fraud, without providing any evidence for his claims.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more Americans used mail-in ballots, meaning that the outcome of the election has taken longer than some previous years, with extra time being needed to count those ballots.
