'This Is Us' Fans Are Seriously Angry Over Uncle Nicky After Last Night's Season 6 Episode

Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his mother, Marilyn (Laura Niemi), didn’t get to have one last Sunday phone call. Instead, he got the chance to say a final goodbye at her funeral. But while This Is Us fans were wiping away their tears at home, many began to wonder where Jack’s brother, Nicky (Griffin Dunne), was after not seeing him sitting in the church pews.

In the latest episode of NBC’s drama This Is Us, a heartbroken Jack returns to Ohio more than a decade after he relocated his mother from Pittsburgh. There, he discovers that she built a new life for herself surrounded by family, friends and a boyfriend. After having a round of her favorite drink and seeing folks reminisce about her, Jack hesitantly picked up the phone to call his once-abusive father, Stanley (Peter Onorati).

“She’s dead,” Jack said. “Three days ago, Mom had an aneurysm and she died … Even after she left you, you were always there. Just hanging over us, keeping us apart. My whole life I never really knew her. She had a real life out here, and I never saw it. And now she’s dead, and I missed the whole thing because of you.”

Why Jack called Stanley isn't totally clear. But when the idea of Stanley showing up to the memorial uninvited arose, it was quickly put on the back burner. With only 10 minutes left in the episode, there was still no sign of Nicky, and This Is Us fans immediately took to Twitter to demand answers for his absence.

“But where is Nicky!!!” one person wrote. “Why did Jack call his dad but didn’t call Nicky? She was his mom too,” another added. “So how did Nicky find out about his mom.? You aren’t the only one without a mom anymore JACK!!” a different fan said. “Why was there zero mention of Nicky this whole episode? This was confusing & very unlike #ThisIsUs,” a follower commented. “I’m so confused. Where is Nicky??? I understand they may have been estranged when Marilyn passed but he wasn’t even in the flashbacks and nobody mentioned his name once???” someone else tweeted.

This Is Us fans aren’t wrong. While Nicky didn’t really have a relationship with Marilyn and Stanley, he still kept in touch with Jack. At this point, Nicky was believed to have returned from Vietnam but was laying low under the premise that he had died abroad. Even though the brothers weren’t close either, viewers argued that Jack should've looped in Nicky.

That said, we might see more of Nicky next week. According to actor Griffin Dunne's IMDB, he is listed in the credits and could possibly making an appearance in episode 5 of This Is Us's sixth and final season.
