US Firefighters Cheered in Sydney as They Arrive to Battle Bushfires

American firefighters were met with applause as they arrived at Sydney International Airport to assist firefighting efforts in Victoria on Wednesday, January 8.

Some 150 US firefighters had been dispatched or were due to be sent to fight the deadly Australian bushfires, according to reports. Australia has previously sent firefighters to help battle blazes in the US.

Thirty-four fire warnings were issued across Victoria for January 9, according to the Victoria State Government. Two areas were advised to evacuate immediately.
