US futures up, capping a volatile week of trading

US stock futures moving higher to close one of the worst weeks of the year for major indexes

NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stock futures are sharply higher, extending a volatile week in which major U.S. indexes suffered some of the year's worst losses.

Dow Jones industrial futures are up 65 points to 14,475. S&P futures have added 8.4 points to 1,542.40. Nasdaq futures are up 15.75 points to 2,755.25.

The Dow is down more than 2 percent this week, the S&P is down 3 percent, and the Nasdaq is down nearly 4 percent.

Technology companies are again seeing a heavy volume of trading. IBM is down more than 4 percent in premarket trading Friday after reporting a decline in profits and revenue late Thursday.

Microsoft seems to have avoided this week's tech sell-off, promising an aggressive entry into the computer tablet market in coming months as PC sales fade.
