Simone Biles’ exit from gymnastics events at the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental well-being has sparked a national conversation about mental health and societal expectations of elite athletes. Dr. Marcia Faustin, a Sacramento-based family and sports medicine physician with UC Davis Health, has an insider’s perspective on what Biles and other Olympians confront as one of two doctors for the U.S. women’s gymnastics team.
