US National Security Adviser arrives in Kyiv with an unannounced visit

According to the message, Ukrainian officials briefed Sullivan on the impact of persistent Russian air strikes at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the situation on the battlefield, and military needs of the country’s armed forces.

In a comment to journalists, Sullivan said that Washington will remain “unwavering and unflinching” in supporting Ukraine after the upcoming midterm elections to the U.S. Congress.

“We fully intend to ensure that the resources are there as necessary and that we'll get votes from both sides of the isle to make that happen,” Sullivan said.

Bloomberg earlier reported that during his first visit to Ukraine since Feb. 24, Sullivan met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Chief-of-Staff, Andriy Yermak.

Yermak noted the meeting was “crucial” and productive, adding that Ukraine’s partners “understand the situation completely.”

On Nov. 4, the United States announced a $400 million security assistance package to Ukraine, which will include 45 refurbished T-72 main battle tanks – in addition to armored personnel carriers, drones, and air defense systems.
