US National Security Advisor Visits Ukraine, Pledges 'Steadfast' Support

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan visited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Friday, November 4, to announce $400 million in new security assistance for Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion.

The White House said the package included “refurbished T-72 tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the refurbishment of 250 HAWK surface-to-air missiles for eventual transfer to Ukraine.”

The refurbished T-72 tanks were part of a “trilateral, coordinated effort with the Netherlands and Czech Republic,” according to the US Department of Defense..

During the meeting, Zelensky presented Sullivan with an award – the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the II degree – for “significant personal merits in strengthening interstate cooperation, and support for the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” according to the Office of the President of Ukraine. Another award – an Order of Merit of the III degree – was presented to Amanda Sloat, the Senior Director for Europe at the US National Security Council, the president’s office said.
