U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D- El Paso, will be in town this week to field questions and clear up any confusion about two bills in Congress: the Build Back Better bill and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
The act was signed into law by President Joe Biden on Nov. 15 and will improve infrastructure such as streets and airports, as well as invest in renewable energy sectors to create clean energy and jobs.
The meeting is in-person at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Westside Regional Command Center, 4801 Osborne Drive.
“I think it’s important for our community to understand how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will impact our lives and future generations in El Paso," Peter Svarzbein, District 1 City Council representative and mayor pro tempore, said in a news statement Tuesday. Escobar is a guest speaker for the District 1 December community meeting.
People also can watch the livestream on the El Paso City Council District 1 Facebook page.
Attendees also will have the opportunity ask about Build Back Better, a bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives, but hasn't passed the Senate yet. The bill focuses on investing in small businesses, making health care more affordable, funding the fight against climate change, and other social and economic issues.
The House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better bill on Nov. 19.
