USA TODAY Network publications roll out new comic strip lineup

Classic newspaper comic strip legends like Dennis the Menace, Blondie and Beetle Bailey are here to stay.

But the nation's largest newspaper publisher, USA TODAY Network, will complete the rollout a refreshed slate of comics this January in this and other publications.

Roughly two-thirds of USA TODAY Network's more than 200 publications made the transition in October, with the remainder set to adopt the new lineup in early 2024. Gannett Corp., Inc., which owns the USA TODAY Network, is making the changes in part to standardize and modernize its comics page offerings.

“Our mission to provide essential journalism in the communities we serve means we are always evolving our content to ensure we are relevant,” Gannett Chief Content Officer Kristin Roberts said. “Refreshing our comics provides a consistent and modern presentation for our audience while incorporating beloved favorites.”

Roberts became the USA TODAY Network's chief content officer in March 2023 and has focused on reallocating company money to boost local reporting teams.

While all locally offered print comics in the newspaper will also appear in the eNewspaper, readers can check out usatoday.com/comics to view additional comics. Digital lineups remain unchanged.

Most publications will retain a similar number of comics as they now offer. Readers will have access to the full lineup online through their local newspaper's website and via usatoday.com/comics.
