USA Track and Field Championships: What to watch Saturday
Day 3 of the USATF Outdoor Championships is Saturday at Hayward Field with events starting at 11:30 a.m.
Saturday at the track
Women’s triple jump final — Oregon junior Lexi Ellis and sophomore Dominique Ruotolo will get a chance to extend their season. But all eyes should also be on the three Olympians — American record holder Keturah Orji, Tori Franklin and Florida’s Jasmine Moore, who swept the NCAA triple jump and long jump titles two weeks ago.
Men’s hammer final — Rudy Winkler set the American record at Hayward Field last summer during the Olympic Trials when he threw 271-4. The 2022 U.S. leader, however, is fellow Olympian Daniel Haugh, who threw 260-7 earlier this month.
110 hurdles first round — Former Duck Devon Allen is back at Hayward Field as he attempts to make his third world championships team. The future NFL player and 2021 Diamond League champion recently reset his PR when he recorded a 12.84. Reigning world champ Grant Holloway, who is already qualified for Oregon22, is also entered.
3,000 steeplechase final — Is Evan Jager back? The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist ran a season-best 8:23.57 in Thursday’s semifinals to easily make the finals, second only to Daniel Michalski’s 8:23.39. All three 2020 Olympians —Hillary Bor, Benard Keter and Mason Ferlic — qualified for the final as well.
Other finals: Women’s pole vault; women’s javelin; men’s and women’s 400; women’s 400 hurdles; women’s 100 hurdles
