South Florence High quarterback LaNorris Sellers had a magical senior season. He led the Bruins to their first state championship. He was a finalist for Mr. Football. And he was one of the MVPs for the S.C. team in Saturday’s Shrine Bowl victory.

Along the way this year, Sellers committed to Syracuse — and for the longest time he seemed settled in with the Orange. But the University of South Carolina came calling during the season. When the Gamecocks offered, Sellers suddenly had a decision on his hands.

He’ll announce his final college decision this Friday during during the December early signing period.

“Think I’m just going to sign the papers and send them off Wednesday and announce it Friday,” he said. “We are going to do something at the school” at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

He returned home from Spartanburg on Saturday night and did not conduct any in-home visits. However, he said he talked or texted with practically every member of the USC staff Saturday, including new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains.

Sellers said the Gamecock commitments on the Shrine Bowl were on him pretty hard during the week, and they are part of the reason he’s giving the Gamecocks strong consideration.

“Just the players, really,” Sellers said. “I was around a lot of them this week (at the Shrine Bowl). And still talking to the coaches. Coach Loggains was telling me about his experience with other quarterbacks. He’s learned from other quarterbacks, the strengths and weaknesses of quarterbacks, and he uses it to put into all the quarterbacks he has now and builds around them.”

Sellers also talked with Syracuse offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck during the week. Beck is doing the best he can to keep Sellers in the fold.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said. “I’m still thinking about all the stuff and not trying to stress over it. I’d say six or seven” (on the strength of his Syracuse commitment).”

For the season, Sellers accounted for 4,286 yards and 67 touchdowns, 45 of them through the air.
